Tenuta Rekhale, almost suspended between earth and sky, is located, with its 12 thousand square metres of land, on the south part of the Island, privileged first fruits production area.
Among several olive trees and sapling Zibibbo grapevine you can see “Montagna Grande” (The Big Mountain), a little Mediterranean flora and fauna trove, still intact and well conserved, standing out on the blue of the Sicilian Channel. Rekhale is one of the most authentic area of the Island where you can still feel the antiquity of this place, a little world where impetus and sweetness of natural elements still prevail over man and contemporaneity.
As well as the whole Island, it has always been a perfect wine-making area for the millenarian Zibibbo grape cultivation, also known as Muscat of Alexandria.
The Estate in this “magical” and “rough” habitat, produces today as it did in the past great products and derivatives, exported and recognised all over the world. Zibibbo, oil, capers, oregano have so become a substantial part of our business.
Garden and orchard
We have integrated a vegetable cultivation to the "Fruit Forest" orchard to improve the quality, basing ourselves merely on biodiversity. Rekhale Estate cultivates only seasonal products allowing our guests to taste the great quality and freshness for a healthy and Mediterranean flavour cooking. Agricultural productions are all obtained according to local cultivations in perfect harmony with the natural environment.
Secular olive trees on a volcanic soil hardly reach the metre of height. For this reason the harvesting conditions are particularly difficult. All this makes each fruit of this land unique. The particular scent given by the climate, the cultivation without water and the proximity of olives to the ground, contribute to the extraordinary uniqueness of each product. We produce only extra-virgin cold-pressed oil almost exclusively obtained by secular "Biancolilla" olive trees. Biancolilla and Nocellara are the most used cultivars. Olives, in the autumnal period are strictly hand-picked and the pressing in cold mill within the day ensures and preserves quality and organoleptic properties.
The most important productions are: "Biancolilla Tenuta Rekhale Extra Virgin Oil" for raw and delicate foods; "Biancolilla Nocellara Tenuta Rekhale Extra Virgin Oil" a gold-yellow coloured oil with hints of green, very aromatic and fruity, with a very low acidity level and non filtered.
Zibibbo is both the name of a grape variety (also called Muscat of Alexandria)and the sweet wine obtained by it. The word "zibibbo" comes from the Arabic name zabīb (زبيب) that means "raisin".
Synonyms of zibibbo are: (as wine) Muscat of Alexandria, Moscatellone; (as grape) Salamonica and Salamanna. On 26 November 2014 in Paris, UNESCO has declared the typical Pantelleria Zibibbo sapling grape vine cultivation, heritage of humanity. It was unanimously endorsed by all the UNESCO Member States: it is the first agricultural practice in the world that obtains this prestigious award. It is important to remember that all the products hereinafter placed on the market are the result of millenarian agricultural knowledge and applications. The "modern" supply chain slightly differs from the cultivation and production methods of the past. The difficult type of cultivation that requires continuous soils care and maintenance, patience and a lot of physical effort, has remained the same for a long time.
